School of Chemistry 2019 Highlights

Martin Boddie was appointed Recruitment Marketing Manager in 2018 and has been very busy promoting the School of Chemistry and providing a wealth of information about it. The following is his summary for 2019 as of November 26.

                                                   Marketing highlights over the last 12 months:

  • New School of Chemistry website

  • School in 60 Seconds (2nd most viewed UoE video, 97,000+ views on YouTube)

  • Our Degree Flexibility (24,000 views on YouTube) and Video Gallery with our Industrial Placement/Year Abroad students’ experience

  • Web traffic to new Undergraduate webpages increased 48,000% vs last year

  • Web traffic to new Postgraduate webpages increased 25,000% vs last year

  • 200% increase in Postgraduate student numbers YoY

  • New Undergraduate subject specific leaflets plus Careers & Employability and Final Year Project Options (print) and downloadable from website

  • School of Chemistry 360 Virtual Tours so International students can visit virtually (also viewable in 3D Virtual Reality with Google cardboard glasses)

  • New School alumni profiles

  • 1st School at UoE using Augmented Reality app in our leaflets/banners, links to School in 60 Seconds video. (download the app and scan the molecule)

  • Updated Postgraduate Chemistry brochure is now available online and print editions

  • New School of Chemistry hoodies for current student have now sold over 400. We’ll have a special 100th anniversary edition next year for JBB and KB 100.
    We hope to have these available for our alumni to purchase in 2020.

  • New EaStCHEM video promoting the joint research school between UoE and St Andrews.

  • School of Chemistry twitter: We were down in George Square last week organising an IYPT/Scarcity of Elements event with the RSC. I covered it on the School of Chemistry twitter which I managed to wrestle off the various academics and teaching office staff who were running it before I came along;)
