Pat Edington

I remained at the University of Edinburgh, undertaking research under the guidance of Marjorie Harding, and graduated PhD in 1970.

After obtaining my Teaching Qualification from Moray House College, I joined the Physics Department staff at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh, where I worked until retirement in 2002.

I was a marker for O-Grade and then Higher Physics  for well over 20 years, acted as an examiner in Higher Physics for several years and was co-setter of Higher Physics on one occasion.

Until taking up my teaching post I was actively involved in yachting, having been Secretary and Captain of Edinburgh University Yacht Club and having been Press Officer for the Royal Forth Yacht Club Centenary Regatta in 1968.

School duties rather restricted time for sailing and I became involved in curling and cricket.

I coached the curling teams of George Watson’s College throughout my teaching career and led school teams on four tours to Canada.

I also toured in Switzerland (1980) and Canada (1993) as a member of teams representing the Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC).

With the RCCC I obtained Coaching and Umpiring qualifications and have officiated at numerous curling events at home and abroad.

During season 2011/12 I served as President of the RCCC having served on several of its committees over the previous eight years.

On the cricketing front, I served as Scorer for the Watsonian 1st XI  for about 30 years and also scored on a number of occasions for Scottish international teams.  I also served as Secretary of the East of Scotland Cricket Association for ten years.

I am still actively involved in curling, attending two or three international events each season as either an official or supporter.

Foreign travel continues to be one of my greatest likes.  One unfulfilled ambition is to visit Antarctica.
