Clare & Peter Henry (at wedding of second son)

You requested some information as to what has transpired since graduation. After a short spell with Shell - in their plastics division - I joined a private paint company making coatings and related products for British Industry and enjoyed a fascinating 42 years - and visiting just about every town in GB - but mainly the industrial estates not the more picturesque towns themselves.

From coating bra clips to Hercules aircraft, the breadth of my experiences made for a satisfying career. First,  I was recruited to untangle 30 years' rather muddled product ranges (27,000 products were on the inventory - never mind the colour variants!); then introducing computing to the company [anyone remember the IBM 360  series?]; running the laboratories & Technical Service and finally, introducing the company to Pretreatments and establishing a division that eventually had a 7 figure turnover and making real money.

I married in '77 and have 2 boys who are, in turn, happily married and I now have 3 grandchildren.

Living in Farnham Common - 20 miles west of London - I keep in touch with a few from Edinburgh. If anyone is in the vicinity 01753 645067 or my email address above will find me and I should be happy to revisit old memories with them.

One of my few disappointments with our University was the Scottish government's introduction of a discriminatory fee structure - singling out English students for fee penalty as opposed to any other EU youngster. The alumni office know my views well!

Please pass on my good wishes to all who attend; I still have my chromatography book - a document well ahead of its time.
