13 May 1961 - Visit by Maj. Gen. Eric Cole G2EC and John Clarricoats G6CL

to Watson's Radio Club.

 

RSGB President Maj. Gen. Eric Cole G2EC and Executive Vice President & Secretary John 'Clarry' Clarricoats G6CL visited Watson's while in Edinburgh for an RSGB Official Regional Meeting (ORM). They made a presentation and answered questions about Amateur Radio in the school Lecture Room. Later, the Radio Club station GM3BCD was open for visitoes.

A booklet (now somewhat faded)  provided for all involved contained the history of the Radio Club and information about Watson's, and is reproduced below. Maj. Gen. Cole was also Director of Telecommunications at the War Office including the administration of the CCF Signals National Net, which was operated by the Watson's Signals Section using the callsign 24. (We are still looking for photographs of this visit - can anyone help?)
