1958 - Cubical Quad Antenna for 21 & 28MHz

In May 1958 a major improvement in our DX capability was provided by the installation of a 2-band cubical quad antenna on the top of the school at 80ft above ground level,  a great advantage in obtaining  a strong signal. The quad was manufactured by Jim McCaig GM3BQA of the Forth Motor Company in Cockenzie. It was installed by Tom Simpson and used a remotely-controlled rotator motor. The beam bearing was indicated in the radio room below using  a pair of selsyn repeaters. This was a high-gain antenna capable of being directed at the station being worked. It proved to be very effective in our worldwide DX work.

Cubical Quad antenna similar to the one at Watson's. (Location unknown).

Below - close-up of the rotator and a club member adjusting it. (Name?)

The selsyn beam-direction indicator is in the square box in the middle, above the receiver.
