Photographs from the earliest days of the Radio Club in the late 1940s

J.M.M. (Robin) Stirling of West Linton, who was the Founding Secretary of the Radio Club in 1949-50, has kindly provided these photographs of that era. They include himself (#1) and the late Ian Wharton (#2 & #3).

The GMSWL QSL card was used by many club members for Short Wave Listening, which was a popular activity at that time.

The two amusing cartoon posters advertising the Radio Club meetings and Short Wave Listening competitions were posted at the beginning of term.

The first meetings were held in Room 38 in the Physics Department. This was John Hughes's room in the 1950s and 60s but we have not yet found his arrival date..
